Electricity
A Popular UK Card Drinking Game
Objective:
Electricity is a drinking game from the UK that is great for downing a 12 pack with your buddies. You're guaranteed to drink and all players stay involved the whole time. Play with your group of friends and drink when you create an Electric Current. Let it flow!
What You Need:
3 Players or More
About 3 or 4 Beers per person for each game
Full Deck of Cards (two decks for large groups)
About 3 or 4 Beers per person for each game
Full Deck of Cards (two decks for large groups)
How to Play:
Shuffling your deck of cards and disperse them face-down evenly to everyone playing.
No one looks at their cards!
Once all of the cards have been dealt, the player to the left of the dealer begins and turns go counter-clockwise.
Explain to everyone that in order to drink, they must create what is called a "current" between players.
An electric current is created when 1 player flips over a card, and a player to the left or right also flips a card over that matches.
As you can see it is very easy to get a match.
When a current is created, the revealed cards determine how much you and the people to your left or right have to drink.

- Matching Numbers 2-10
- Matching Suits like Hearts, Clubs, Diamonds, or Spades
- Matching Faces/Cards such as Jacks, Queens, Kings, or Aces.
As you can see it is very easy to get a match.
When a current is created, the revealed cards determine how much you and the people to your left or right have to drink.
Players do not look at the cards in their hand and instead draw randomly from it on their turn.
The first player to start the game, randomly flips over any 1 card from their hand.
Going counter-clockwise the person to their left flips out their card.
If there is no match, the first revealed card is removed and the second card is the new current.
Now the next player goes!
Once a player creates a current, don't drink yet! You must have the next person in line reveal a card too.
The current keeps going around counter clockwise if the next person reveals a matching card.
Do this until the current breaks and someone reveals a card that does not match.
When the current breaks, anyone who helped create the current must drink.
You determine how much you drink by looking at the very first card that started the current.
This is determined by the number value on the card.
For example if the "current" starts with a number 2 card. Players in the current have to drink to the count of 2.
If it's a 7 card then players drink to the count of 7.
Jacks are to the count of 11.
Queens to the count of 12
Kings to the count of 13
Aces to the count of 14
Once the counting begins that's when the fun really starts!
When players are ready to drink to the count of the card revealed. Players who didn't match get to do the counting.
This makes it fun because some people can count longer than others to be jerks. And! It gets everyone involved so there are no sleepers.
When a current breaks, determine who has to drink and who begins the count.
The player that did not match/broke the current. Gets to begin the 1st count by saying "One".
If other players were not in the current, the count passes to the next player in rotation. The next player will say "Two" to pass it on to the next player who says "Three".
This continues until all numbers have been counted.
If you are the only person left out of the current that's ok. You get to do all of the counting by yourself!
After the drinking is done play again starting from where the current was broken.
There is not really any way to win this game so we have seen players go until they are out of cards or beer.
We have also seen parties who tally up how many "Currents" each player took part in. Players who were involved in the most "currents" are the winners and have to do the electric slide. Assuming they can still stand up of course.
Please drink safely! This one is a doozy for sure.
